My First Experience with the Mito Red Light Therapy Bed: A Unique Red Light Experience
Here’s a fun fact: I’ve been deeply involved in the red light therapy world for six, maybe seven years now, and in that time, I’ve tried dozens—perhaps even hundreds—of red light therapy devices.
Despite my experience with all these devices, I had never used a red light therapy bed. Crazy, right? Considering it’s a top-of-the-line red light therapy product. Well, that all changed today.
I was finally lucky enough to try out the Mito Red Light Bed (code ALEX saves), specifically the Mito Red Light Mito Recharge Bed.
I will share my first impressions and feedback on this unique red light therapy product. At the end of this post, I’ll give you a deeper dive into my experience.
First, let’s look at the key features, the price, and what I liked (and didn’t like) about the bed.
The Product: A Closer Look
A red light therapy bed is a substantial piece of machinery. It’s also a high-ticket item. The Mito Recharge Bed is fascinating because it’s not as premium, large, or expensive as other red light therapy beds.
For example, I remember seeing a massive bed from in Arizona. It looked great, but its size made it incredibly costly to produce and tricky to transport. I heard a story about how they had to break it all down for one customer and hire an electrician to rewire everything, and it ended up being a logistical nightmare.
Mito Red Light needed a more practical solution—something cheaper, easier to set up, and more user-friendly. The result was the Mito Recharge Bed, which offers greater flexibility and lower costs than its competitors. Instead of one massive unit, it comes in two separate pieces: a flatbed on the bottom (where you lie down) and a large, semi-curved panel on a motorized stand that shines light from above.
This design makes it easier to freight, set up, and use. It doesn’t require hiring extra hands or dealing with complicated wiring. Each part operates on a standard 120-volt, 15-amp outlet, and the total footprint is 75 inches by 45 inches. Plus, getting it through doorways or into different facilities is relatively simple because it's two pieces.
Key Features of the Mito Recharge Bed
- 4,200 LEDs emit four different wavelengths: 630nm, 660nm, 810nm, and 850nm.
- No special electrical output is needed; it runs on standard outlets.
- It has wheels, so you can easily move the top and bottom pieces.
- The motorized stand allows you to adjust the height of the top panel for optimal comfort.
- It has remote controls to operate the light panels and adjust the top piece’s height.
- Weight is under 400 pounds, and the total wattage draw is around 2,300 watts.
- Three-year warranty included.
What’s cool about the design is how open it feels. Unlike traditional beds that might feel claustrophobic, the Mito Recharge Bed has an open design with no sides closing you in.
Many people using other red light beds often complain about the enclosed sensation, especially considering the heat and light intensity involved. The Mito Recharge Bed allows you to adjust the top panel to your comfort level, giving you plenty of breathing room.
The Price
What’s the cost of all this? You can purchase the top or bottom pieces individually or get them as a package. Here’s a quick breakdown:
- The bottom piece (where you lie down) contains about 3,000 LEDs and costs around $12,000. Use my discount code ALEX to save 5% on that, a nice discount on a $12,000 item.
- The top piece and motorized stand have a similar price.
- The complete package (including the top and bottom pieces and the motorized stand) costs about $23,000. And again, you can save 5% using the code ALEX.
That might seem steep at first glance, but it’s reasonable considering that most red light therapy beds sell for between $50,000 and $150,000.
For $23,000 (before the discount), you get 4,200 LEDs, four wavelengths, motorized stands, easy setup, and the flexibility to move the parts around. If you wanted to create something similar using smaller panels, you’d still be looking at tens of thousands of dollars.
This bed’s design allows it to handle back-to-back sessions in a clinic or gym setting, making it an excellent option for professional spaces.
My Experience Using the Mito Recharge Bed
Now, let me describe what using the Mito Recharge Bed for the first time was like. This was my first time lying down on a full red light therapy bed, and I was excited and curious to see how it would compare to the upright panel setups I’m used to.
To give you more context, I went into this session feeling drained. I had just finished filming four interviews, was jet-lagged, and, to top it all off, had not used red light therapy for about five days. I was running on empty, which made it a perfect time to test out this bed—I wanted to see how it would help with recovery and overall relaxation.
The moment I lay on the bed, I immediately sensed how much more relaxing it was than standing in front of panels. There’s something inherently soothing about lying down, but combining that with the therapeutic effects of red light therapy takes things to another level.
I’ll be honest: I was so relaxed that I fell asleep during the session! I jolted awake briefly but had these brief micro-sleeps throughout the 10-minute session.
The top panel hovers above you, but it’s not enclosing, which I know concerns some people who feel claustrophobic in other types of beds. While the bottom bed provides total exposure from underneath—a full-body experience you don’t get with upright panels.
It’s worth mentioning that I sweat a bit towards the end of the 10 minutes. The light generates a bit of heat, so after 10 minutes, you feel the warmth. If I had stayed for 20 minutes, I probably would have been sweating more, but for a shorter session, it wasn’t uncomfortable.
Another interesting thing I noticed was how this bed forces you to switch off mentally. With my usual panels, I’m standing up, sometimes planning my workout or stretching. I’m often multitasking. But with this setup, you can’t do that—you’re lying down, and the experience almost forces you to let go. You’re just there, relaxed, taking in the light.
It was a great experience—very different from using red light therapy while standing. There’s something to be said about the benefits of being in a horizontal position during treatment.
A Couple Of Things Caught Me Off Guard.
- When the session started, the intensity of the light came on full blast right away. It would’ve been nice if it ramped up slowly to ease you in.
- At the end of my session, when the light shut off suddenly, it jolted me awake, especially since I was so relaxed. A feature that allows for a gradual shutdown would’ve been great for maintaining that relaxed state as you finish your session.
Final Thoughts
The Mito Recharge Bed (remember code ALEX saves!) is a well-designed product that offers a truly immersive, relaxing experience. I can see why people gravitate towards this type of setup for personal use and professional settings like clinics or gyms.
I’d consider adding it to my routine, especially on rest days or weekends when I want a more relaxed session.
For those considering a red light bed but put off by the high-end prices, the Mito Recharge Bed is a great option. At $23,000, it’s far more affordable than other high-end beds, and it offers impressive features like 4,200 LEDs, motorized adjustments, and a more open design.
If space or budget are concerns, you could explore some of Mito Red Light’s other commercial products, like the Mito Red Light Cabin, which is perfect for gyms or clinics.
