Introduction

You're in the right place if you’re looking for a red light therapy panel with the lowest EMF ratings. In this review, I’ll walk you through the results from testing 17 different red light panels using my electrosmog meter.

This isn’t just a quick overview—I’ve thoroughly tested magnetic and electric fields and closely examined certain standout features you should know. Some panels performed exceptionally well, and others... not so much.

But first, let’s cover the basics.

What is EMF?

EMF stands for electromagnetic fields, which come in various forms. Light itself is technically part of the EMF spectrum, but when we’re talking about harmful EMF in red light therapy panels, we typically refer to three types:

  • Magnetic fields
  • Electric fields
  • Radiowaves, including microwaves (which include things like Wi-Fi and wireless signals)

In my testing, I focused on magnetic and electric fields, which are more directly relevant when using a red light panel close to your body. Some panels also emit microwave fields because of wireless connectivity features, which I’ll touch on.

Testing Standards: What Makes an EMF Level “Safe”?

I followed the Building Biology Standards for my EMF testing. According to these standards, the amount of EMF detected at six inches from the device needs to fall below certain levels to be safe. The six-inch distance is important because it’s the typical range at which people use these panels for red light therapy.

The Results: 12 Panels Passed the Test

Of the 17 panels I tested, 12 performed exceptionally well regarding EMF emissions. These 12 panels emitted low levels of magnetic and electric fields, making them safe to use even at a six-inch distance.

If you’re concerned about EMF exposure, any of these panels would be a solid choice.

Here are the 12 panels. I have reviewed each of them.

1. Rojo Refine 900
2. Block Blue Light Powerpanel Mega 2024
3. Rouge G3 Pro
4. Mito Red MitoPRO 1500 X
5. PlatinumLED BioMax 900
6. GembaRed Overclocked
7. CytoLED Triplex
8. Red Co Red Rush 840
9. Scienlodic P1500
10. Boncharge Hive Max
11. Kala Elite
12. Idoo 1500

But for transparency, let’s review the five panels that didn’t meet the criteria for low EMF.

Panels That Didn’t Make the Cut

Here are the five red light therapy panels that didn’t pass the strict EMF standards:

1. LightPathLED Diesel XL Shortie

  • Issue: Slightly elevated magnetic field.
  • Explanation: The Diesel Shortie XL wasn’t too far off the mark. The magnetic field was just over the safe limit, but it’s still low enough that I’d feel comfortable using it.

2. Hooga Ultra 1500

  • Issue: A little of the magnetic field.
  • Explanation: Similar to the LightPathLED, the Hooga Ultra 1500 only slightly exceeded the EMF threshold. Again, this is not a concern for most users, but worth noting if you’re highly EMF-sensitive.

3. Mito Light BioHacker

  • Issue: The magnetic field is slightly over the limit.
  • Explanation: The BioHacker slightly exceeded the threshold for safe magnetic field levels. If you’re particular about EMF, I recommend looking at other panels.

4. Infraredi Pro Max

  • Issue: Higher magnetic field and loud operation.
  • Explanation: The Infraredi Pro Max had more of an issue. The magnetic field levels were notably higher, and I think this is because of the panel’s design. Its fans seem to be the primary culprit here—they’re working overtime, and poorly shielded cables likely contribute to the increased EMF output. This panel is loud, which could be bothersome during a therapy session.

5. Joovv Solo 3.0

  • Issue: High electric field.
  • The Joovv Solo performed well in magnetic fields but had a high electric field because of its ungrounded power plug. This is a simple fix, but Joovv hasn’t addressed it even though the panel has been on the market for years.

Joovv suggests you use the panel at a 12-inch distance, where the electric field is within safe limits. They also cite various electrical standards the panel meets. But what if you want to use the panel at a closer range? This is where the problem arises, and I wouldn’t recommend the Joovv Solo if you’re concerned about EMF.

The Standout Panels:

Now that we’ve discussed the panels that didn’t meet the requirements let’s turn our attention to those that excelled, especially if you’re interested in rock-bottom EMF levels.

CytoLED & Gembared Panels

  • Why they stand out: The CytoLED and Gembared panels offer low EMF across magnetic, electric, and microwave fields. They don’t have wireless connectivity features, so if you’re sensitive to EMF and want a simple panel with no bells and whistles, these are great options.

Mito Red Light MitoPro 1500X

  • Why it stands out: The MitoProX panel also has low EMF levels but includes a Bluetooth app for control. The good news is that you can disable the Bluetooth entirely, eliminating any concern about microwave fields.

PlatinumLED’s Sauna Max Pro

  • Why it stands out: The Platinum LED Sauna Max Pro is one of the most EMF-friendly panels I’ve ever tested. It’s fanless, IP65-rated (designed to withstand heat and moisture), and emits almost zero EMF, even if you use it up close to the body. This is one of the few panels I’d recommend if you’re ultra-sensitive to EMF or need to use the panel at zero or one-inch distances.

If EMF Is A Concern:

If you’re worried about EMF, here’s what you need to know.

In all honesty, most of these panels will be fine unless you’re extremely sensitive to EMF. I could’ve tested them at even closer distances, like 2 or 3 inches, but it’s unnecessary. Using these panels that close is not advisable, and the six-inch numbers are already low.

However, there are a few things to consider. Many of these panels come with wireless connectivity. You can connect multiple panels without cables and control them from one device—like PlatinumLED’s BioMax, Block Blue Light panels, and Rojo Therapy Refine. But that wireless connection creates a microwave field. So, if you live in a low-EMF environment (no cell phones, Bluetooth, etc.) and want to avoid it, I’d steer clear of panels with wireless features.

Similarly, panels with Bluetooth apps—like the PlatinumLED Biomax, Rojo Therapy Refine, and Mito Red Light MitoPro 1500X—also add to the microwave field. The good news is that some, like the MitoPro 1500X, let you disable Bluetooth entirely.

The Shopping Tool and Traffic Light System:

If you’re unsure which panel is right for you, you can use the Light Therapy Insiders Shopping Tool on my website. It lets you filter panels based on their EMF ratings.
We also have a traffic light system to make it easy—🟢 green for low EMF, 🟡 yellow for moderate, and 🔴 red for panels to avoid if EMF is a concern.
This tool makes finding the best panel for your needs easy based on the latest tests.

Conclusion:

Which Panel Should You Choose?

If you’re concerned about EMF, especially at close distances, I recommend looking for simple panels without wireless connectivity or apps. The PlatinumLED Sauna Max Pro, CytoLED, and Gembared panels are all excellent choices. They provide low EMF exposure and deliver great light therapy benefits without added complications.

For those only mildly concerned about EMF, panels like the Mito Red Light MitoPro 1500X or the PlatinumLED BioMax can still be good options—disable any wireless features.

And remember, unless you’re extremely sensitive to EMF, many of the panels I tested (even the ones that didn’t pass all standards) will still likely be safe for most users when appropriately used.
