Introduction

Red light therapy is becoming extremely popular among actresses, top models and movie stars. These celebrities would do almost anything to slow down aging and preserve their youth. Understandably so, because in today's world - unfortunately or not -, appearance matters a lot.

We often hear about plastic surgeries, miracle diets, nutritional supplements etc. As these methods do not always fulfill the expected results, these celebs keep searching for something new.

Light therapy, however, isn't exclusively the domain of models and movie stars. Over the years, it's garnered attention from the medical and wellness community, who have been exploring its potential benefits for quite some time now.

In this post, we've rounded up some of these people - many of them you probably know - who rely on the power of light, - specifically red light therapy.

Salma Hayek

Salma Hayek is a Mexican-American actress, producer, and former model. She gained widespread recognition for her role in the film "Frida," earning her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress.

Salma - like other superstars - presumably does a lot to maintain her beauty and youth. This repertoire includes Spectra Light Eyecare glasses, too, which was designed by dermatologist Dr Dennis Gross.

This device's primary aim is to remove dark circles around the eyes, eliminate wrinkles and tighten the skin. It includes 96 red LED lights in 4 different wavelengths. The suggested session duration is only 3 minutes. In addition to the practicality of the size, there was also a strong emphasis on the fashionable look - not surprisingly.

By the way, while checking out Dr. Dennis Gross's website, I found something interesting that I never actually saw before. And even though there is no evidence that at least one of these celebrities genuinely use it, yet I just hope that it's worth an image.

Alight, let's move further.

Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian is a prominent American media personality, model and businesswoman who is best known for starring in the reality TV show "Keeping Up with the Kardashians." She has an influential presence in the fashion and beauty industries, including her successful ventures in cosmetics and apparel.

In this TikTok video, Kim shared how her home and office look like. Well, that's really not the usual, we can tell. Few people can afford a red light therapy bed next to the most basic office equipments. Anyways, from time to time she jumps in her red light bed.

As we can read from an interview, most likely she uses it to treat her psoriasis condition. Unfortunately it's hard to tell the red light bed's brand, but maybe we'll find out one day.

Kourtney Kardashian

Speaking of the Kardashian family, Kim's sister Kourtney also turned to the beauty and wellness business. Having shut the business of a clothing boutique, which she was running with Kim and was related to, now she is a CEO of a lifestyle site called Poosh.

As beauty is important to her, she's also keen to try out innovative tools. Probably, that's how she encountered light therapy, too.

For the first sight, she's quite modest compared to her sister, using only a face mask, that can even fit in a drawer. The device she uses is the DMH Aesthetics Led Light Shield Mask, that costs $190. The product description tells that it emits different colors, designed to alleviate different skin problems.

If you want to learn more, earlier we wrote separate articles about the benefits of blue light and red light therapy.

Btw, I found this review video about the DMH Aesthetics mask that you might find helpful.

Jessica Alba

Jessica Alba is another famous American actress and businesswoman, widely recognized for her roles in such movies as the "Fantastic Four" and "Sin City." Shifting from Hollywood, she’s become the co-founder of The Honest Company, a consumer goods company that sells baby, personal, and household products.

A picture from several years ago shows that Jessica has also tried light therapy.

After a long research, I've only found an improved, newer version of the product Alba's been using. And this is the Lebody Opera face mask.

This device emits both 630 nm and 850 nm wavelenghts. As you can also see in the description, the 630 nm enhances skin elasticity and collagen production, while the 850 nm penetrates deeper and contribute to overall skin rejuvenation.

As before, the promise is again a younger, smoother, wrinkle-free skin.

Vanessa Hudgens

Vanessa is an American actress and singer who gained fame for her role as Gabriella Montez in the Disney Channel movie series "High School Musical."

Honestly, we can't tell that she still uses red light therapy, but she's used it in the past for sure. Or at least during her preparation for the Oscar's. The "winner" device was a practical 4-in-1 Solewave Red Light Therapy Wand.

As its name suggests, this small tool combines four technologies into one. The technical parameters state that red light (630nm) rejuvenates the skin, the galvanic current enhances skincare product absorption, while the built-in facial massage decreases puffiness. In addition, the therapeutic warmth also aims to reduce skin puffiness.

I wonder what other features they could cram into such a small device.

Julianne Moore

An acclaimed figure in the acting world, Julianne Moore has captivated audiences with her dynamic portrayals in a range of films, including the Oscar-winner for her role in "Still Alice," among others.

Of course she cannot be left out from the list of light therapy users, either. In September 2023 on her Instagram account, she posted a picture of herself while receiving a red light therapy session.

As the post suggests, Julianne's used one of the Fabricio Ormonde facial treatment packages. Besides the Oxylight Ionix LED light therapy this treat also includes microcurrent and ultrasound for muscle toning and oxygen infusion.

I truly think that this beauty machine (Oxylight Facial) is amazing. It is equipped with the most effective and super-advanced technologies on board, as if they want you to look younger than a 18 year-old. Of course, I would have to try it to be sure.

Irina Shayk

She's a Russian model and actress known for her work in high-profile fashion campaigns. Besides, many people might heard about her because she's the ex-fiancee or girlfriend of two other celebrities, Cristiano Ronaldo and Bradley Cooper.

But the point here is that like Julianne Moore, Irina is also a returning guest of Fabrico Ormonde's beauty salon.

And now we come to those who are related to the health and wellness industry in some ways.

Andrew Huberman

Huberman is a neuroscientist, professor and podcaster, whose popularity has been growing insanely in the past few years. If you'd learn about science-based tools that can help you increase performance and overall well-being, you definitely want to check out his podcast by the way.

As I'm a big fan of Andrew, I dedicated a separate article to why he advocated light therapy and what he does personally. So in this, you'll discover his own daily protocol, device recommendations and some exciting research findings, too.

The famous Dr. Andrew Huberman uses red light therapy for health purposes and also advocates its benefits. We explored this topic in detail.

Ben Greenfield

Ben is a key player in the biohacking world. He's an acclaimed speaker, coach, and author, famous for his holistic approaches that enhance both physical and psychological well-being. When I read about his daily routine, I was shocked. It's packed with so many things that it's almost impossible to count. Believe it or not, red light therapy is also on the list.

As Ben explains, he incorporates red light therapy into his morning routine by standing between two full-body panels - naked - for about 15-20 minutes maximum. Additionally, he also uses a red light helmet to further increase cognitive performance.

You may want to explore in detail how Ben uses this therapy, what his personal experiences are, and what he recommends.

Ben’s protocol, preferred devices and firsthand experiences.

Spoiler alert: Ben became interested in this therapy while seeking solutions to increase testosterone. His story is quite remarkable and somewhat confusing.

Joe Rogan

Joe Rogan is a renowned American comedian, podcast host, and mixed martial arts commentator. However, he's perhaps best known for "The Joe Rogan Experience," his wildly popular podcast where he engages in long-form conversations with a diverse range of guests.

He has integrated red light therapy into his routine, - presumably with the use of a Joovv full-body panel. Typically, Joe employs this therapy post-workout or before going to bed, which assists in muscle recovery, decreases inflammation, and promotes skin rejuvenation.

By the way, if you may want to listen to the #2060 episode with Gary Brecka, where they - among other things - discuss the benefits and and mechanism of action of red light therapy.

Bryan Johnson

This man is revolutionary, and is ready to redefine our perception of aging through his own example. Bryan has been following an exceptionally strict protocol centered around diet, exercise, supplementation and - mostly - innovative therapies. Each new method is selected, then evaluated by a team of doctors.

Light therapy is also among the tools he often applies. He starts his day with a Lux Lamp after waking up to adjust his circadian rhythm. As regards red light therapy, he uses a full body panel to receive systemic benefits. Read more on this in the post below.

Bryan Johnson: Living Forever (with Light Therapy)?
Can red light therapy help slowing down his aging process?

What he has achieved so far is kind of astonishing. Over the past 2 years, he has demonstrated that biological aging can be slowed down - and in his case - even reversed.

In summary

As you can see, the actresses, models and singers listed in this article benefit from red light therapy primarily to preserve their youth. Of course, light therapy is very effective, but we must also see that these ladies use a lot of other things on a daily basis to look so gorgeous. So it's hard to argue, and shouldn't be, that red light makes anyone a superstar.

Although, when we look at the biohackers and health experts, they are increasingly focused on promoting overall well-being and longevity rather than solely on beauty. Of course - like the ladies -, these people also engage in a range of other activities that support the aforementioned goals, - with red light therapy playing an integral role.

Meanwhile, it's reasonable to assume that figures like Huberman or Joe Rogan don't spend their valuable time in front of RLT panels without reason. So why not consider giving it a try ourselves?
